Garden Update

We have been eating vegetables from our garden every night since June. Our garden has done pretty well for our first year. We've had some problems with insects and now lately the birds eating our tomatoes, but we've still harvested a lot. Our running total so far is 61 tomatoes, 95 okra, 11 peppers, 21 zucchini, and 39 yellow squash. Hopefully there will be much more to come. Our favorite things to make with the tomatoes are salsa and spaghetti sauce. With our other veggies we usually saute them or put them in a frittata.

  1. WOW! AWESOME! I'm sure your produce is as delicious as it looks! Salsa and spaghetti sauce . . . yuuuummm!

We've eaten some lettuce, green onions, and about 75 grape cherry tomatoes from our garden. Not too bad for a little, 4'x16' raised bed . . . and a very cool, wet spring after planting. Our yellow squash is blooming but none to pick yet. We have 3 green, super beefsteak tomatoes on the plant. Others not setting on yet . . . the heat, I think. We've been hit with insects, too; and competing with the big maple trees to the north of us. Plan to dig in some compost this fall.
