Walls of Jericho

Saturday March 16th, Andrew and I met Teresa and Jesse at the Walls of Jericho to hike.  It is a 6 mile round trip hike that is 3 miles into the canyon to get to the waterfalls and 3 miles up and out.  The up and out is the hard part and we were sore the next day, but it was worth it.  It was a beautiful day to be outside.  We had a great time.

DeSoto Falls

Friday night, Andrew and I drove to Nature's Classroom in Mentone, AL where Jesse and Teresa are working to spend the night in their cabin and go hiking with them on Saturday.  Saturday they took us to split rock where we had to climb through a tiny opening in a rock and up and out of it.  We then headed for Desoto Falls where we hiked along the river to get there.  We enjoyed a picnic lunch on a rock overlooking the falls.  Once we got back to their cabin we enjoyed a game of predator vs. prey, very fun!  We enjoyed supper with them and some episodes of Duck Dynasty before heading back home.  We had a great day at camp!

Garden 2012 Totals

Here are our grand total numbers for how much of each vegetable we harvested in 2012.  We calculated that we saved $414 in produce and only had to invest $13 in seeds and compost this year. We are still eating Zucchini and Okra that we stored in the freezer.  This weekend we worked out in the garden and got it ready for planting this spring.  We are ready for spring to be here so we can try growing some new vegetables this year!

Christmas Tree 2012

We picked out our tree the day after Thanksgiving and decorated it that Sunday after everyone left. I do think this is our best tree yet.  Only 3 more weeks til Christmas! We can't wait to go back to Lincoln to celebrate with family.  Now off to do some shopping!

November fun

Dustin, Heather, Tessa, Daniel, Ken, and Arlene all came to visit us for Thanksgiving.  We had a great time with them!  Wednesday night we had hotdogs and smores outside around the fire pit. Thursday we cooked and ate lots of food for Thanksgiving. Friday we had a picnic lunch at green mt, walked the trail around the lake and then went and picked out our Christmas tree at the farm. Saturday we took them to the US Space & Rocket center.  It was great having family to celebrate with on Thanksgiving and getting to spend time with them.

October fun

The beginning of October, Andrew and I built a fire pit for our backyard.  Teresa and Jesse came to visit that weekend so we were able to test it out and use it to make smores. So far we've really enjoyed using it when we have guests.  While Teresa and Jesse were here, they made us asian food one night and it was delicious.  We loved the sushi! 

Hummingbirds

I put out the two hummingbird feeders that I got from my parents and Andrew's parents for Christmas and prayed hummingbirds would find it and they did.  We have quite a few different types that come and visit our feeders, one is the Ruby-throated Hummingbird which has a red neck.  The hummingbird in the bottom picture sits on the hook and guards the feeders chasing off any other hummingbirds that want a drink.  The cats like to watch them from the window.  The hummingbirds are not scared of Andrew and I and buzz around us when we are outside.
