Dismals Canyon

Saturday we drove to Dismals Canyon where we hiked. We stayed until dark and then went on a night hike where we saw what they call dismalities which are bugs that glow in the dark. Usually they have thousands of them but this year there were only around 15. We will have to go back again when they have more. It was a very beautiful area. In one of the pictures Teresa and I are standing inbetween two rock walls called Fat Mans Misery. It was the original entrance to the canyon. Sunday we went to Green mountain where we walked the trail and then Monday we drove Teresa and Jesse to the airport where they left for South Korea. We had a great time together.

Lake Guntersville

Sunday we took Teresa and Jesse to Lake Guntersville where we went hiking and swimming at the lake.

Summer 2010

Here are some pictures of Krissy napping with me, helping Andrew with homework, helping with laundry, and helping us pack the suitcase. The tunnel is her newest toy which she loves to jump and hide in. Our garden has been growing a lot lately and we just harvested two okra today. We'll have to see how they taste tonight. The picture on top is of an okra flower which are very beautiful.

Andrew has been very busy with school work this summer. He just got back from a conference in Nashville of which i was very jealous of all the good food he got to eat, but he did bring me back a present of shampoo and conditioner! I've been working and taking two classes this summer. Next weekend we pick up Teresa and Jesse from the airport and then after they leave for South Korea, Ken and Arlene are going to visit, so it will be very nice to have company. Hopefully we'll have nice weather when they are here so we can spend time hiking and swimming.

March Pics

In March my mom and dad came down to visit. Andrew was glad it rained on the Sunday they were here because that meant we couldn't be outside so he got to finally go to the Space and Rocket Center for the first time. It was an interesting museum with lots to see so we got an annual pass so he can go back as many times as he wants. Here are a few of the many pictures he took while we were there.

February Pics

I am a bit slow about putting up new pictures, but here are some pics from when Teresa and Jesse came to visit us in February. We went to Cathedral Caverns which has the worlds largest opening to a cave. There were a lot of neat formations in it. We also went hiking on Monte Sano mountain.

Kitty!

Yesterday we adopted a cat from an organization called Forgotten Felines. We had seen her listed on the internet for a couple weeks and called the lady who was her foster mom on Tuesday night. She told us that we could meet her at Petsmart on Saturday when she would be volunteering there. The minute we saw her we wanted her. The lady told us that after we had called her on Tuesday night 2 other people had called about her, and then at Petsmart on Saturday 2-3 more people said they would take her if we didn't. So, we were very thankful that the lady kept her for us and that we called when we did. The foster mom named her Chrissy but we still aren't sure if we want to keep that name or name her something else. She is a very small cat and will be one in March. She has a very sweet personality. She loves being around people and is very playful. She loves to chase the laser light. So far she has been a perfect fit for us. She is also quite curious and likes to follow us around and crawl into small spaces. Back in December somebody had dumped her at a gas station. She stayed at the gas station for 3 days not leaving the place where they had left her, waiting for them to come back. Her foster mom got gas there one night and asked the employees about her and they told her what happenned. She was already fostering a lot of other cats so she left without taking her. Well, she could not sleep that night because she kept thinking about her so she went back to the gas station and found her sitting right where she was the day before so she took her home and we are very thankful for that.

Christmas Tree

Saturday night we decorated our Christmas tree. As tradition once Andrew got out his Star Trek ships he flew them around the apartment with the Star Trek music theme playing in the background. Andrew also insisted that the ships could be a part of the nativity scene because they could have time traveled and been there when Jesus was born. I moved them later. We are excited to come home in a couple of weeks! I want to see some snow. Now that I know that I won't get snow often I miss it. We've had lots of rain and thunderstorms.
